Using Assessment for Learning to help young learners achieve their goals
Putting our pupils on the path to becoming more independent and responsible learners is the goal of any good teacher. But deciding precisely how to give them proper guidance and support to this end is no easy task. In this practical session we will consider how best to use assessment for learning principles to determine learning needs and inform target setting, and how learning objectives can be used to provide feedback and support self and peer-assessment in the primary classroom. Examples will be provided of what this looks like in the context of a lesson and a course and how information from this can be used alongside other forms of assessment.

Raising our game at primary: making learning fun
In schools there has been a tendency to see ‘fun and games’ as an extra to the ‘real work’ that goes on in a lesson. However, fun and work are not incompatible, and if we use games appropriately learning and enjoyment will go hand in hand. Kids learn by doing and games are the perfect way to make this happen. This session will look at what games, gamification and game-based learning can bring to the table and provide a wealth of examples to use with your pupils.

Brian Engquist has spent over 20 years as an English teacher and teacher trainer. He often speaks about Blended Learning, advances in technology applied to education, assessment, and the evolving roles of teachers and students in this landscape. He works as Teacher Training Department Manager for Spain and Portugal.
