WORKSHOP
What really works

There's a global debate around education, schools and teachers are receiving a lot of different opinions and can feel confused in this ocean of options where the challenge is not to find but to choose. From active methodologies to technology passing through effective feedback, in this talk we are going to present what really makes a difference and has a real impact on our students learning process.

WORKSHOP
Assess 4 success

Educational research has clearly demonstrated that feedback and clear expectations are powerful influences on learning and achievement. When we talk about student-centered activities and empowering students to guide their own learning, effective and qualitative assessment is crucial to make them aware of what they already know and the work that remains to be done to reach their goals. In this talk we will share best practices and practical ways to do it in your class.

Michael Brand
Michael Brand is a Teacher Trainer for Pearson. A passionate linguist, he studied French and German at Durham University, followed by a PGCE in Modern Languages. He has taught in England and Spain and has experience in the public and private sectors and across the primary and secondary school spectrum. He has developed a particular interest in motivational teaching methodology. Outside of the ELT world Michael enjoys racing his bike up mountains and enjoying Spanish gastronomy to get his strength back.

WORKSHOP
Cooperative learning and projects: the perfect match

There are many opportunities in the English classroom for cooperative learning but projects, key to secondary education, have proved to be the perfect match. Why? In this session we will first answer this broader question before looking at some practical examples of projects which will engage your students and help you to put a fresh and effective twist on your lessons.

TALK
Focus on Meaning in Bachillerato

In the Focus series, meaning is central to everything we ask the students to do. Instead of basing lessons on invented people in imaginary situations, we present target language in real contexts and authentic texts. In this session, Elena will show examples of meaningful contexts and demonstrate exercises and tasks which draw on the learners’ experiences, thoughts and opinions.

Elena Merino
Elena Merino is a Teacher Trainer for Pearson and teacher at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. She’s worked as a teacher for twelve years in different contexts and for different types of students and learning styles. PhD in Communication and Multilingual Education, she’s concerned about meaningful tasks that engage students to communicate in English.
