What really works
There's a global debate around education, schools and teachers are receiving a lot of different opinions and can feel confused in this ocean of options where the challenge is not to find but to choose. From active methodologies to technology passing through effective feedback, in this talk we are going to present what really makes a difference and has a real impact on our students learning process.
Marta Cervera is an English teacher, certified educational consultant and certified trainer. She currently works as a Teacher Trainer for Pearson.
She has been involved in education since 1991. She has taught English to young learners for more than 15 years and soon she discovered and fell in love with educational technology. When sheâs not in front of a computer or talking about education, you can find her practising sports and enjoying outdoor activities.
Assess 4 success
Educational research has clearly demonstrated that feedback and clear expectations are powerful influences on learning and achievement. When we talk about student-centered activities and empowering students to guide their own learning, effective and qualitative assessment is crucial to make them aware of what they already know and the work that remains to be done to reach their goals. In this talk we will share best practices and practical ways to do it in your class.
Michael Brand is a Teacher Trainer for Pearson. A passionate linguist, he studied French and German at Durham University, followed by a PGCE in Modern Languages. He has taught in England and Spain and has experience in the public and private sectors and across the primary and secondary school spectrum. He has developed a particular interest in motivational teaching methodology. Outside of the ELT world Michael enjoys racing his bike up mountains and enjoying Spanish gastronomy to get his strength back.

Cooperative learning and projects: the perfect match
There are many opportunities in the English classroom for cooperative learning but projects, key to secondary education, have proved to be the perfect match. Why? In this session we will first answer this broader question before looking at some practical examples of projects which will engage your students and help you to put a fresh and effective twist on your lessons.
Brian Engquist has spent over 20 years as an English teacher and teacher trainer. He often speaks about Blended Learning, advances in technology applied to education, assessment, and the evolving roles of teachers and students in this landscape. He works as Teacher Training Department Manager for Spain and Portugal.
Focus on Meaning in Bachillerato
In the Focus series, meaning is central to everything we ask the students to do. Instead of basing lessons on invented people in imaginary situations, we present target language in real contexts and authentic texts. In this session, Sue will show examples of meaningful contexts and demonstrate exercises and tasks which draw on the learnersâ experiences, thoughts and opinions.
Sue Kay has been involved in teaching English, training teachers and materials writing for over 25 years. She started her ELT career in France and then returned to the UK where she worked as a director of the Lake School of English in Oxford. Her first writing project was the Reward Resource Packs published by Heinemann and written to accompany the best-selling course, Reward. Since then she has been involved in various writing projects with co-author Vaughan Jones, notably Inside Out and New Inside Out published by Macmillan and Upper Secondary course Focus, published by Pearson. Sue is also one of the co-founders of ELT Teacher 2 Writer who publish eBooks and run courses that train teachers in the craft and skills of ELT writing.
